Book publication: Principles & Strategies for Sustainable Design

23 February 2012 by Marketing & Communicatie

February 2012 saw the publication of the book ‘Uitgangspunten en strategieën voor een duurzaam ontwerp’ (‘Principles & Strategies for Sustainable Design’) by Prof. C.A.J. Duijvestein and Peter Teeuw (Architecture TU Delft) and Kristel Aalbers (Architecture and Real Estate and Housing, TU Delft).

Sustainable solutions for the built-up environment

To develop sustainable solutions for the built-up environment and thus contribute to a better world. A utopian dream, an illusion, an impossible task? By no means, according to the authors of the book ‘Uitgangspunten en strategieën voor een duurzaam ontwerp’ (Principles and Strategies for Sustainable Design). Despite the complexity of today’s design practices and sustainability systematics, a new type of sustainable design is feasible. Clarity and unambiguity with regard to the concepts 'environment’, ‘sustainability’ and ‘sustainable building’ form the basis for a strategic approach and organisation.

Sustainable development is all around us

Based on his personal experience, Kees Duijvestein explains how sustainable development is connected to everything we do. Duijvestein, Aalbers and Teeuw go on to argue that there is more to sustainable development than just the environment, explaining how strategies effectively shape truly innovative (urban) building practices and associated organisational processes.
