Metropolitan and Regional Design

Maurits de Hoog, Prof. ir. C.M. de

The chair focuses on designing the continuously expanding cities and regions and the design of perspectives for the metropolis.Globalisation reaches its final boundary: the planet. From Sassen (2001) we learn global power establishes now geographically, concentrating in a few metropoles only. Which of them will survive as focus of global management, culture and economy depends on local and regional effort. Making design proposals for development of the Dutch Metropolis adds to defining that position.

Research and study of the Chair are focused on:

  • critical design-research on actual cases (patterns and processes) and historical experiments (NNAO, HMD, Deltametro-pool);
  • international comparison of types of conurbations, (10km), metropolises (30km), metropolitan regions(100km) and continental core areas (300km), their development and perspective;
  • study by design Deltametropool, components en details (Delta Design).
